Welcome new LTCC faculty
members!
-
The staff of the LTCC
Library is happy to be of help to you with integrating library resources
in to your classes.
-
Some of the ways that we can provide assistance
to you are listed below. Of course, the best way that we can be of help
to you and your students is to work together with you to create a library
session that will be of greatest benefit.
-
For more information about how we can help,
please stop by the Library (Room A201) or call 530-541-4660 ext. 262.
Some of the ways that we can support your
curriculum include:
Library Orientation
-
What is it? A scheduled class visit
to the library. It includes highlighting important areas of the collection
and a tour of the facility.
-
What's it good for? Your students will
become comfortable navigating the library and finding information in the
collections.
-
Tell me more! We're happy to schedule
a session for your class during any of the hours that the Library is open.
Classroom Visit
-
What is it? I visit your classroom
and discuss the major library resources that will help your students complete
their assignments.
-
What's so great about it? Students
feel more comfortable asking questions and interacting when they are in
their usual classroom setting.
-
Tell me more! I'm available whenever
it's convenient for you and your students.
Information Competency Session
-
What is it? A critical skill in today's
information overloaded world, information competency teaches your students
the skills necessary to find, evaluate, use, and communicate information
regardless of format. Typically students are given an assignment and asked
to search through several resources (online catalog, article database,
printed materials, the Internet) to locate useful data. The goal is to
teach them to be successful locating good information regardless of the
tool.
-
What's in it for me? Your students
will become proficient at finding and using information in various formats.
-
Tell me more! You and I work as a team
to create an information competency assignment best suited for your class.
-
You got anything else? The Academic
Senate for the California Community Colleges recently passed an Information
Competency Resolution at its Spring 2001 Plenary Session.
Online Research Guide
-
What is it? A webpage created specifically
for your class, it focuses on the resources needed to be successful when
researching a topic.
-
Why would I want one? Students are
directed to the information resources they need and they can access them
online anytime. In addition, it creates a web presence for your class.
-
Tell me more! I'll be glad to create
one in conjunction with you.
-
You got anything else? Feel free to
view a sample Online Research
Guide.
Class Library Liaison Service
-
What is it? We provide your students
with my contact information (office location, phone number, and email address)
and encourage them to get in touch with me whenever they have questions
or need assistance with research or locating information.
-
How will this help a busy professional
like me? Your students will have access to a librarian whenever they
need one.
-
Tell me more! This one's easy! Just
say the word and consider it done!
Library Scavenger Hunt
-
What is it? A handout containing questions
designed to familiarize students with the many resources available in the
library.
-
...and it will help me in what way?
It
will introduce your students to materials and information available in
the Library.
-
Tell me more! Because library materials
are so frequently updated and revised, it's best if we collaborate to create
the most useful, up-to-date scavenger hunt.
